Dog Agility Courses

Popular in England and gaining popularity worldwide, Dog Agility is a sport for accomplishing teamwork between humans and their dogs. It is a dog haven for both human and dogs. The center of attraction is the obstacle course and it is very rapidly becoming more and more popular all over Europe.

In the US, agility courses and competitions are promoted by the USDAA that was started way back in Texas in 1987.

Dogs are measured by their height and their experience level to ensure fairness in such competition. Experience levels are grouped into Novice, Intermediate and Masters.

In Dog Agility competition, a brief walkthrough of the course is allowed so that the trainer can ascertain the best action to maneuver through the various routes and complete it accurately and in the shortest time frame possible.

As the scoring are based on course action faults (missing or displacement of obstacles) besides timing, accuracy is crucial when in competing advanced level.

Organizations may set the course layout differently; there are certain standard obstacles that will be found in almost all of them.

In contact obstacle, when the objective of the trainer is to get their pet to touch a predetermined area within the obstacle while the are maneuvering through it, the common courses constructed would be the A-frame, the Dogwalk and the Teeter-totter.
